OGC Nice Make Ligue 1 History in First-Half Drubbing of Saint-Étienne
Ligue 1 History Made
OGC Nice made history in Ligue 1 on Sunday with a record-breaking first-half performance in their 6-1 thrashing of Saint-Étienne.
The hosts raced into a 5-0 lead within the first 28 minutes, the fastest any team has ever scored five goals in a Ligue 1 match.
Andy Delort opened the scoring after just three minutes, before Hicham Boudaoui, Melvin Bard, and a Ross Barkley brace made it 5-0 inside half an hour.
Saint-Étienne's Woes Continue
The result leaves Saint-Étienne rooted to the bottom of the Ligue 1 table with just one point from their opening five games.
They have now conceded 16 goals in those five matches, the worst defensive record in the league.
New manager Claude Puel has failed to improve results since replacing Pascal Dupraz last month.
Nice's Impressive Start
In contrast, Nice have made an impressive start to the season under new manager Lucien Favre.
They have won four of their first five games and are now up to third in the table.
Favre has brought a more attacking style of play to Nice, and his players are clearly relishing the freedom to express themselves.
Goalscorers
- Andy Delort (3')
- Hicham Boudaoui (9')
- Melvin Bard (18')
- Ross Barkley (23', 28')
- Gaëtan Laborde (69')
Conclusion
OGC Nice's historic first-half performance was a sign of their attacking prowess under new manager Lucien Favre.
Saint-Étienne, on the other hand, continue to struggle and are in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom of the table.
